Brittany Shreves selected Student Artist of the Month

Ritchie County High School graduate recognized for her involvement in theatre

Morgantown WV (July  2011) Brittany Shreves, a 2011 graduate of Ritchie County High School is the July Student Artist of the Month.  The award is sponsored by the Appalachian Education Initiative and Chesapeake Energy. Shreves, who was nominated by her theatre teacher, Gregory Der, is the daughter of Eva and James Shreves of Pullman, West Virginia. Her profile is featured on the AEI website,

In addition to the theatre program at school, Shreve has been involved in National Honor Society, Upward Bound, Astronomy Club, Pulsar Research Academy and the Pullman Community Center. This fall, she will attend Alderson-Broaddus College with plans to double major in biology and history with a minor in education.

To be nominated for the recognition for the 2011-2012 school year, a student must meet five criteria.  A student must:

  • Be a junior or senior attending a West Virginia public school,
  • Participate on an ongoing basis in a visual or performing arts program and have mastered that art or progressed in the field as a result of school-related activities,
  • Be in good academic standing,
  • Participate in other extracurricular or community activities that do not have to be arts related, and
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.


School personnel and community members may nominate students by completing the nomination form on the AEI web site,  Print copies of the nomination form are available by contacting Lou Karas at or 304-225-0101.
