The February Student Artist of the Month is Emily Humberson. Emily is a senior at Jefferson High School (Jefferson County). She is the daughter of Rhonda Jackson and Jay Humberson of Kearneysville, West Virginia.
Emily has been involved in the Theatre department at Jefferson High School during all four years of high school. In her time there she has moved from acting to stage management and has become the lead technical student, operating numerous events in the auditorium.
Last year, Emily was nominated to the West Virginia Thespians Student Board for Thespian Troupe 2774, and this year she serves as Vice President of the same Troupe. Emily is a member of the National Honor Society. Through NHS, she has assisted with a school wide recycling program and other community based activities.
Emily was nominated by her teacher, director and mentor, Steve Glendenning. “She has become my ‘go to’ crew member for any event, and I’m proud to say Emily is one of the best students I’ve had in 15 years as a teacher,” said Glendenning. He also commented that she is also "an amazing storyteller and writer."
“While I love every aspect of theatre, there is something about the technical side that draws me in,” said Emily. “Sitting behind a script with only a blue light before the beginning of a show is my favorite place to be. Theatre is an amazing medium because it requires the artistic collaboration of many different people to turn words of a script into a live, creative experience. I've met some amazing people and made some of my favorite memories in high school theatre.”
